Did somebody say… VACATION?
With all of this talk of vacation out of South Bend, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky, I can’t help but dream of a warm beach somewhere with the waves crashing against the shores, sand mixing in my hair and me, keeping my shirt on to avoid any embarrassment. Instead, I’m stuck in Lawrence, Kansas where classes were cancelled today due to campus being coated in ice thick enough, our club hockey team can hold tryouts for next year.
Usually my busiest day of classes, but I’m sitting in bed at 5:30 pm and haven’t moved all day instead. Well, our floor had a fire alarm around 10 o’clock, but that’s besides the point. A nice relaxing day after stomping on Trae Young and burying Oklahoma so deep, they’ll need an icepick to get back home.
California Dreamin’
As I await spring break’s arrival, which is still four weeks away, the gray skies, the slippery sidewalks and the wind smacking my cheeks until they look like tomatoes, it’s gotten to me. I need to go home on Friday. And with my “friends” at Grand Canyon University who continue to shower our Slack channel with the warmth of Arizona and persistently rub it into my face, I need to hop on a plane tonight.
But that’s not how life works. Instead, we’re left to suffer in Lawrence, in South Bend and in Louisville, where the thought of vacation is disheartening. Sure, we have differing reasons for our distain, but it’s all the same in the end, right? Oh, it’s not? Louisville lost a championship? Notre Dame finished the 2012 football season 0-1? With their only loss in the National Championship to Alabama?
And me? I’m just cold. In February. In the midwest. I should’ve gone to North Carolina. It’s warm, but then again, they never have vacation…*ahem* 2005 *ahem*
