Western Michigan Hockey head coach Andy Murray announced he has a long term deal in place to remain WMU’s head coach. He announced this in his weekly press conference. The details of the extension are still unknown.
“I never ever announce my contracts. You just take care of your players, and you’ll be taking care of yourself. So we have an agreement in place, but I don’t announce those kinds of things, because it’s all about our team here, it’s not about Andy Murray, ” said Murray in his weekly presser.
Murray, 116–112–34 , has seen a lot of success with the Broncos since he took over in 2011. In his first season, he led the Broncos to an NCAA Tournament berth. After two more solid campaigns and then a brief downturn, The Broncos found themselves back in the NCAA Tournament in 2016 and are in position to make another appearance this season.
“Yes, my plan is to be here, that’s Kathy’s (WMU Athletic Director) plan. And we’ve got some tremendous players coming in,” Murray said. “We’re going to move some players onto the National Hockey League this year. We’re not exactly sure how many, but we like our group coming in, we like the group we’ve got right now. There’ve been opportunities over the years to go other places, (but) I love being the Bronco hockey coach and being around the fans and other people I’ve gotten to know here.”
Before “grabbing the reigns” at Western Michigan, Murray coached in the NHL where he went 333-278-58-69 in 738 games. The 2017 NCHC Coach of The Year is a proven winner and Kalamazoo, MI is going to be home of a hockey powerhouse for years to come.
