Rutgers has scheduled Monmouth University as a 2020 opponent, finally providing us with a real battle at the shore. Well, hopefully Rutgers will blow Monmouth out… Now I understand most of the country just shits on New Jersey, but if it wasn’t for us none of you would have football so be thankful. Rutgers vs Princeton was the first football game ever and was played in 1869…nice. The last time Rutgers played Princeton was in 1980 when Rutgers was finally becoming a divisional 1 program and won 44-3.
Why Rutgers vs Monmouth could be interesting
Jersey, unlike most states doesn’t have two FBS programs (Im sure we will get a joke saying Rutgers isn’t from someone). We don’t have the Penn State vs Pitt or USC vs UCLA, or the 5 schools in Texas that all play each other. Rutgers paying Monmouth a good amount of money to come to Piscataway could really pack the stadium. Getting a bunch of drunk, local, New Jerseyans in one stadium could be a worse idea then when Snooki went up to that guy at the bar..
Rutgers has been scheduling more local teams for the future then what they have previously done. Playing at Kansas this year and at Washington two years ago just doesn’t make much sense. Monmouth would get a chance to play in front of 52,000 fans instead of their home capacity of 7,000 and it all being home grown talent that can compete with anywhere else in the country. Oh and one more reason
Nobody actually cares, except me of course.
