As an Ohio State fan, it’s easy to be subjected to the bias that Nick Boss has been one of the best players in the nation, yet it is hard to believe that there have been many players that have played at a higher rate than him. Yes, it is easier to put a defensive player down because they’re less capable of flashy stat lines like those on the offensive side of the ball, but his stats through two games are ones that can’t be ignored.
Through two games in 2018, he has 7 solo tackles (9 in total), 5 of which have been for a loss. He also has 3 sacks and a fumble returned for a touchdown. It’s easy for me to sit here and tell you how amazing these numbers are, but defensive players can’t really stand out from players like Tua Tagovailoa and McKenzie Milton.
It’s fair to assume that he will slow down at some point, but this is only due to the fact that the wealth will start to spread with the other 10 players on the field and the rest of the defensive players waiting in the wings on the sideline.
Historically, defensive players have never truly been given an equal chance when it comes to the Heisman, but Nick Bosa is here to break down that barrier.
