At this point in the season, two teams have separated themselves from the rest. Ohio State and LSU are noticeably better than everyone behind them.
After the win against Alabama, LSU just takes care of business and they are in. Same with Ohio State, but they still have to play Michigan, Penn State, and most likely Minnesota.
Both teams have amazing resumes but LSU’s just sticks out like no other. Wins against Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and even Texas is unmatched. Ohio State has the quality win against Wisconsin and a good win against Cincinnati, but they still have their hardest part of the schedule coming up.
LSU has the fourth-best offense in football and will have the Heisman winner at quarterback in Joe Burrow. His game against Alabama is the definition of a Heisman moment.
LSU has some problems in the secondary outside of Grant Delpit, as they are ranked 33rd in total defense. But it’s not a glaring handicap.
Ohio State was above LSU in the first College Football Playoff rankings but a win over Alabama will push LSU up to number one. They do not have the week-by-week dominance that Ohio State has, but they have the big marquee wins to propel them to one.
Ohio State is the better team. I don’t think there is any doubt about that. They are one of two teams (Clemson) to have a top-five offense and defense. But Ohio State has not played its toughest part of its schedule. It has come to the point where we can’t ignore LSU’s quality wins anymore.
But I think all college football fans should be salivating over a potential Ohio State vs LSU National Championship game. A Burrow revenge game against Ohio State and Justin Fields would just be unbelievable.
I also need a Coach O “Go Tigers” during the National Championship.
