Oklahoma’s Mark Andrews wins Mackey Award for top tight end

Oklahoma tight end Mark Andrews was the recipient of this year’s Mackey Award for college football’s top tight end. The school made an announcement about the award in a news release Wednesday evening.

Andrews topped Wisconsin’s Troy Fumagalli and Penn State’s Mike Gesicki and will receive the trophy on Thursday.

The junior led the nation’s tight ends with 906 receiving yards and was sixth in touchdowns with eight.

The 6-foot-5 tight end is Oklahoma’s career leader for yards for the position with 1,713. Andrews also is sixth in school history for receiving touchdowns in a career with 22 overall.

The Sooners will face the Georgia Bulldogs on January 1st in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
