Don’t cry, but this will be the final installment of the college football playoff eliminator in 2017. By this time next week, we will know the field of four that will have a shot at the title. If I had to guess, this Tuesday the committee’s top four teams will be Clemson, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Wisconsin, not necessarily in that order. There are still eight teams left in the eliminator, but some of them seem to be longshots. The winner of Auburn-Georgia will likely get in and the winner of Clemson-Miami probably will as well, barring a major committee revolt against the Hurricanes. If Oklahoma and Wisconsin both win, they should be in. Outside of that, Alabama lurks in waiting as the possible next team up if someone here were to lose, but Ohio State believes that they have a chance with a win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship. Teams like TCU, USC, and UCF would like to think they have a chance, but I believe that the end of the road has already come for those teams.
Could the SEC get multiple teams in? It’s certainly possible. This weekend could either go chalk, or all hell could be unleashed upon the committee (which is what we are all hoping for). The only team I eliminated this week was the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as they sent it in and lost to Stanford on the road.
