After the final piece of confetti has fallen from the rafters and the stadium lights go out, the CFB season ends. But it also marks the dawn of a new season for NFL/College Football fans around the country: Mock Draft SZN. 14 out of the 32 NFL fanbases still have hope in their team, with their seasons still alive for a couple more days. But for the other 18 fanbases, they’re fortunate enough to get a jump on the offseason, which is why we’re all here. The rules are simple, at least for the first go around in this weekly segment. I pick the players to the teams, you get mad that I didn’t take your favorite player for your favorite squad and we all meet next week to do it again.
For this mock draft, we are using the Draft Network site, which in my opinion is far and above the best. This isn’t an advertisement (but it could be down the road). As of now, I am merely just a fan using the best mock draft website known to man. Now enough talk, let’s get into the action.

Kayvon Thibodeaux | Jacksonville Jaguars
As of now, I am Kayvon Thibodeaux and Aidan Hutchinson as 1A and 1B prospects. Ultimately, this first pick came down to scheme fit. The Jaguars likely will overhaul their defense with a new regime coming in. But Thibodeaux appears to fit the mold of players that have found success in Jacksonville.
Aidan Hutchinson | Detroit Lions
The Lions hit a homerun with their first pick in the draft. Hutchinson will likely be a fan favorite right off the bat and possesses that ‘kneecap biting’ tendency that coach Dan Campbell loves.
Derek Stingley Jr. | Houston Texans
Probably as early as a month ago, this #3 pick would’ve been tied to the first QB off of the board. But with Davis Mills’ improved play, I see no reason why they don’t give him a real chance to start. Stingley has the potential to be a star in the league and given where the Texans stand, they need an infusion of talent immediately.
George Karlaftis | New York Jets
If you just read mock drafts, you might accuse me of reaching. But watching just a few games on tape is all you need to know that Karlaftis is special. Likely needs to add a few more moves into the toolbox, but the raw talent is some of the best in the class.
Kenny Pickett | New York Giants
Here’s where things get fun. Pickett displayed incredible leaps from last year to this year, producing one of the best statistical season in ACC history. The Daniel Jones experiment might just be over. And the Giants take the first QB off of the board to start a retool, rebuild, whatever you want to call it.
Ikem Ekwonu | Carolina Panthers
The Panthers need a QB, no question about it. But there is something to be said about an organization who builds their team to be ready to receive a QB. Additionally, the QB FA/trade class is very strong this year. Matt Rhule has likely seen the writing on the wall and knows he needs a competitive QB now. Look for them to kick the tires of just about every available veteran QB. And if you have a shot at the best tackle in the class at 6, why not take it?
Kyle Hamilton | New York Giants
I’ve seen Hamilton mocked as high as 3 in other drafts. In this instance, the Giants take advantage of the slide and fill a need. They also pick up the best player available. His combination of size, speed, and play rec, make him a valuable weapon for this Giants D from Day 1.
Matt Corral | Atlanta Falcons
With Calvin Ridley allegedly on the trade block, there may be another Day 1 pick in Atlanta. For now, they’re focused on the future in a full rebuild. Corral won’t have to start right away. Additionally, the offense can be somewhat interchangeable between Ryan and Corral.
Evan Neal | Denver Broncos
This is a team, like the Panthers, who did not draft a QB, but will be busy in that market. Neal is a dominant run blocker, who has experience at both tackle positions. His size and strength make him an imposing presence on the Alabama offense line. This will transition nicely into the NFL.
Charles Cross | New York Jets
GM Joe Douglas has talked about moving one of his top 10 picks for a proven player. (see Calvin Ridley rumors) But with no trades in this mock, look for the team to shore up on the other side of the ball. With Mekhi Becton and Cross, the Jets will be looking to dominate on both sides of the line next year.
