Purdue kicks off the 2020 football season Saturday afternoon and will be without their star wide receiver Rondale Moore.
The school announced at 12ET Friday that Moore would not be playing in the game with “no further information at this time.”
It’s certainly a big loss for the Boilermakers. Moore is the #2 receiver prospect for April’s NFL Draft and is arguably the best receiver in the country right now.
He suffered an injury last season against Minnesota which ended his season four games in. Moore then opted out of the season and declared for the draft after the Big Ten announced that they weren’t playing football this fall. He then opted back into the season after the Big Ten decided to come back.
It’s a mysterious situation for sure. You can speculate that he’s out due to Covid-19. Jeff Brohm spoke to media yesterday and said that they will be without 5-6 players due to Covid. Brohm would not give names of who would be sidelined. There were also injury speculations earlier in the week that Moore had suffered yet another setback. If he’s anything less than 100% he may be looking at opting back out of the 2020 season. Until Purdue releases further information it will all be speculation.
If Moore does indeed have Covid-19 he will be forced to sit out for a minimum of three weeks and must be cleared by a cardiologist before he can return to play.
We’ll keep you up to date with any further developments.
