Morning tailgates. It is a different battle. Are you supposed to go out the night before or do you call it an early night in order to be 100 percent in the morning? No one knows the correct answer. All I can tell you is, in the great words of Ron Swanson, “Never half ass two things, whole ass one,” and that is exactly what we did in the tailgate round up of Week 2!
Texas A&M played an 11:00 game against a daunting opponent in Prairie View A&M. No, I’m not talking about the teams, as we won 67-0, I am talking about the halftime performance. A&M has never lost a halftime and we were quite nervous to face the “Marching Storm” from PVA&M. Beside the point, 11:00 games are rough. They have to be set-up 3 and a half hours before kick off, everyone is tired, or “feeling under the weather” as my mom likes to call it (or straight up hungover as my Grandma likes to tell me).
In order to make everyone there happy you have to have a few things:
1) One needs to have mimosas or Bloody Mary’s, or how SECYouAtKyleField had this week, a Citrusade (better version of lemonade in my opinion).
2) Breakfast tacos. It is a must to get some food and energy into that body.
3) Some sort of game or music to get people up and moving around. Luckily for this tailgate they had all 3 of those, and also as a surprise guest they even had fireworks! Now when I say fireworks, I do not mean planned out real ones, that would be way too mainstream for this tailgate. When I say fireworks, I mean the ones where someone is setting up the batteries to power the TV, music, ext, and they mess up the red and black cords (positive and negative) and explode one. It was quite a show, gathering much needed attention and I think even a few people applauded the effort.
The tailgate tried to stay chill, but we all know from last week when Pitbull comes on, the Fireball comes out. Not only did that spark up the tailgate, the tailgate got a picture with the PVA&M cheerleaders in front of their banner. Eleven o’clock came around, the game was a beat down. A&M (Texas, not Prairie View), did in fact win the game and halftime (even though it was closer than the experts expected) and people wondered out of the stadium wondering what to do next since it was only 2:00. I can tell you this, SECYouAtKyleField had a different mindset. For them, the tailgate started AFTER the game. That is, the music came on and the tables were brought out to play flip cup. Bags were being played and some games were heated and close if I remember correctly. When I say that, I mean I lost a few games of bags that I though I should have won. There were also many good games of 42. For you non-Aggies, 42 is a very popular domino game, and is somewhat like the card game of spades. With all these games being played you’d think everyone would get hungry again. That is why this tailgate offered a classic ham and cheese slider on Hawaiian rolls. This tailgate stayed out there for a solid 4 more hours and we all had a great day watching football and having a great time.
Week 3 brings up an important matchup against Auburn at Auburn. It will be my first time experiencing a game in Auburn and I am very excited to travel there and experience more SEC fun.
