SEC 2020 Football Update

The Southeastern Conference is set for football to return this fall. SEC presidents have approved a 10-game, conference-only schedule for 2020.

SEC athletic directors approved the plan on Wednesday, then passed on the proposal to league Presidents. Which ended up getting approved Thursday afternoon.

Based on the approval, Week 1 will kickoff on September 26th, and the SEC Championship is now scheduled for December 19th (subject to change). According to Pete Thamel, another favorable date for Week 1 was September 19th. The dates would determine when training camp for each program would start, so programs getting more time to be on the same page for a rollercoaster season is a plus. Giving these players more time to prepare makes them less susceptible to possible injuries.

Finally, the SEC becomes the third conference to have in conference games exclusively, along with the Big Ten & Pac-12. The ACC will have an 11-game season with one non-conference opponent featured, while the SEC will have a 10-game schedule.
