South Carolina Comes Back to Beat LA Tech With an Amazing Game Winning Drive

Wow…If you are a South Carolina fan, that matchup with LA Tech was certainly a whirlwind of emotions. Obviously on paper it looked like LA Tech should have been a pretty easy game for the Gamecocks. With that being said, this game was of the utmost importance for this South Carolina program. Cocks fans coming into this one had more than a few concerns, especially after suffering a tough loss to Kentucky in which they lost star wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a potentially season ending injury.

The first 3 quarters of the game proved that South Carolina fans were right to be concerned about how their offense would perform without Samuel as the Gamecocks offense were down 13-0 going into the final quarter of play. Luckily, they came out hot in the fourth quarter and were able to finally start putting up points…In fact, it looked like a completely different offense than we had seen all game. The Cocks struck early in the fourth, capping off an impressive 97-yard drive with a Jake Bentley TD pass to freshman wide receiver OrTre Smith. Coach Boom and the Gamecocks followed up that touchdown with some impressive defense, forcing two three-and-outs for LA Tech. With 5 minutes left in the game, SC running back Ty’Son Williams broke a huge 35-yard run for a touchdown to put the Cocks up 14-13. LA Tech quickly retaliated with a 25 yard field goal to put them ahead 16-14 with only 55 seconds left on the clock.

With less then a minute on the clock, Gamecocks fans knew that their young quarterback would have to work some Tom Brady-esque magic to give South Carolina a shot at this game…And that’s exactly what he did. QB Jake Bentley led a miraculous six play, 65 yard drive that included a beautiful 41 yard pass to Bryan Edwards to put the Cocks in field goal range with little time left on the clock. Then finally, freshman kicker Parker White, (who hasn’t hit a single field goal all season) steps up and drills a 31 yard game winner to seal the deal in Williams Brice. Overall, this is a huge win for South Carolina and it is good to see every single player stepping their game up in the absence of star player Deebo Samuel. Everyone stepped up and played their part in the fourth quarter, and that’s why the Gamecocks got the dub today.
