Every year I, a Minnesota Vikings fan, watch my favorite team pass on Iowa Hawkeyes, my favorite college team. It never fails. The Vikings have passed on names like Desmond King, Michael Ojemudia and many more in the past, but hell has frozen over.
In the final round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Minnesota drafted Nate Stanley – quarterback, Iowa. IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED! And while this may not seem like a significant pick right now, I do think he will win the backup position over Sean Mannion. The Vikings starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins, was extended this offseason, so Stanley will have time to learn.
Fun fact, once on a podcast here at Student Union, I compared Nate Stanley to God. That’s how much I love this guy. I have followed him blindly without reason for a few years now while many other Iowa fans have shit all over his name.
Stanley is a god-damn winner
Here are the facts when it comes to Stanley’s career at Iowa: 27 wins in three full seasons as the Hawkeyes quarterback, averaged over 211 passing yards per game, 1.75 touchdowns per game and went three for three on bowl games, winning all of them.
When it mattered most, he showed up. He never lost to Iowa State, Nebraska or Minnesota when he took keys to the offense. Those are the three games that Iowa fans LOVE to win more than any others.
Is he the best quarterback? Nope, but he has a big body with an absolute piss-missle for an arm. He could possibly be the heir to the throne of the Vikings’ offense, but it is too soon to tell.
Fun facts that might be true
-Stanley has never lost in the state of Minnesota
-He is going to make Packers’ fans absolutely miserable in the future (as long as their own front office doesn’t do so before that)
-If you search ‘Dirty Nate’ on UrbanDictionary.com, you’ll die laughing
