Student Union CFB Preview: SEC Heisman Candidates

Year after year the SEC hosts a ton of the most talented athletes in college football, and this coming season looks to be no different. Lets take a look at who among these players have the bet shot at becoming this season’s Heisman winner.

Jake Fromm, Georgia

Last season, Jake Fromm threw for 2,615 yards, 24 touchdowns and led the Georgia Bulldogs to an OT loss in the national championship game… and he did it as a true freshman. After losing Nick Chubb and Sony Michel out of the backfield the Bulldogs will rely on Fromm’s arm exponentially more than they did last season. Look for Fromm’s numbers to go up this season.

Drew Lock, Missouri

Drew Lock in his junior year threw for 3,964 yards and set an SEC record throwing for 44 touchdowns. If Lock continues to put up these numbers and can make Mizzou a legit contender in the SEC east, he’ll make noise in the Heisman race for sure.

Jarrett Stidham, Auburn

After a 10-4 season with Auburn in which Stidham posted 3,158 passing yards and 18 passing touchdowns, Stidham is set make a case for his Heisman Candidacy this season. What separates Stidham from other Heisman hopefuls in the SEC is his opportunity to win. If Aubrun can win the SEC West and Stidham improves on last season, Stidham can easily find himself in NYC in December.

Nick Fitzgerald, Mississipi State

After suffering from a gruesome ankle injury in the Egg Bowl last season, Fitzgerald is back in training camp and looking to pick back up where he left off. He’ll have plenty of offensive weapons around him and a good offensive line, so maybe the stars will align for Fitzgerald in his senior season
