Everyone knows that fantasy football takes over the world starting in August every year. Well, maybe not that far but it’s pretty damn close. However, that obsession usually revolves around the NFL. Well here at Student Union, we live and breathe college football (seriously, I worry some guys here may not make it if college football didn’t happen every year). So we decided to put some of our writers to the test and started our very own college fantasy football league. In this article, I will post everyones teams, along with some quick thoughts from them on how they drafted. Our league includes all players in FBS football, so it has a good mix of big and small college guys. Let us know who you think has the best team and will come out on top at the end of the season!

*There have already been trades and these players have been starred on the team they have been traded to*

Down The Drive, Seth Berland

QB: Luke Falk (Wash St.), Logan Woodside (Toledo), Shea Patterson (Ole Miss)

RB: Justin Jackson (Northwestern), Rashaad Penny (SDSU), Rodney Smith (Minn), Devwah Whaley (Ark)

WR: Chico McClatcher (Wash), Cody Thompson (Toledo), Cedrick Wilson (Boise), Nyqwan Murray (FSU), Demetris Robertson (Cal)

TE: Blake Mack (Ark St.), Micky Crum (L’ville)

K: Jonathan Barnes (La Tech)

D/ST: Georgia

Thoughts: While some other guys were going for the top names, I was finding those diamonds in the rough in the Group of 5. My QB group is rock solid, with video game numbers expected from Luke Falk and Logan Woodside, as well as a very high potential backup in Shea Patterson. My top three running backs all will get the majority of touches in their backfields on teams that will be running a lot. My wide receivers may not be well known, but pack a punch as well. Thompson is one of the best WRs in the country and Cedrick Wilson had 1100 yards and 11 TDs in a less prominent role last year than he will have this year. The other three are moving into prominent roles in their offenses after solid years last year. I think I found enough diamonds in the rough to pull off the win this season.

Flowers Power, Cody Goggin

QB: Quinton Flowers (USF), Nic Shimonek (Tx Tech), Drew Lock (Mizzou), Brent Stockstill (MidTN)

RB: Josh Adams (ND), Ito Smith (SoMiss), Mike Weber (OSU), Duke Catalon (Hou)

WR: Jeff Badet (Okla), Allen Lazard (IaSt), Anthony Miller (Mem), Steve Ishmael (Syr), J’Mon Moore (Mizzou)

TE: Troy Fumagalli (Wisc)

K: Eddy Pineiro (Fla)

D/ST: Louisiana State

Thoughts: I think I would have to give myself the title of “best team in the SU fantasy league”. Starting it off at QB, Quinton Flowers would be a Heisman contender in the Power 5, along with Brent Stockstill of MTSU and Shimonek of Texas Tech, who always passes a lot, I feel like I’m set up good here. Ito Smith is one of the most electric runners in the group of five, while also adding value as a pass-catcher. I think Josh Adams is going to have a major breakout for Notre Dame this season and Mike Weber may be the second best runner in the Big Ten. Troy Fumagali is among the best TEs in the country. At WR I have a ton of guys that play in gun-slinging offenses, such as Anthony Miller (Memphis), Jeff Badet (Oklahoma), Allen Lazard (Iowa State), and Steve Ishmael (Syracuse). I believe that this team is good enough to win it all.

Herb Kirkstreit, Jacob Allen

QB: Jesse Ertz (KSt.), Lamar Jackson (L’ville), Hassan Klugh (Char), Steven Montez (Col)

RB: Phillip Lindsay (Col), Ryan Nall (OreSt), Alex Barnes (KSt.), D’Ernest Johnson (USF)

WR: James Washington (OkSt), Wyatt Demps (Nev), Jon’Vea Johnson (Tol), Shay Fields (Col), Ahmmon Richards (Miami (FL))

TE: Mark Andrews (Okla)

K: Tyler Davis (PSU)

D/ST: Clemson

Thoughts: The fighting Herb Kirkstreit’s have a shot in any week with LaMar Jackson on the ship. The running backs include Phil Lindsay of CU, who should have a breakout year considering Soph. QB Steven Montez will rely more on the running game than Sefo Liufau. I also happen to have the most underrated RB running beside him, Oregon State Ryan Nall. My premier receiver is Mason Rudolph’s main target, James Washington. Look for these four players to carry the Kirkstreit’s far into the postseason.

Hoosier Daddy, Anthony Ventura

QB: Baker Mayfield (Okla), Trace McSorley (PSU), Jarrett Stidham (Aub)

RB: Bo Scarbrough (Ala), Kalen Ballage (AzSt), Justin Crawford (WVU), Kamryn Pettway (Aub)

WR: Deon Cain (Clem), Dante Pettis (Wash), Jaylen Smith (L’ville), Deontay Burnett (USC)

TE: Mike Gesicki (PSU), Ryan Yurachek (Marsh)

K: Brandon Ruiz (AzSt)

D/ST: Wisconsin, Florida State

Thoughts: Strong quarterback play is to be expected from this team, as well as some power at running back with human science experiment Bo Scarbrough of Alabama. A name to watch here also is wide receiver Dante Pettis, who figures to be the top target for a good passing attack in Washington.

Hotty Totty Hotties, Frank Fanelli

QB: Mason Rudolph (OkSt), Deondre Francois (FlaSt), Riley Ferguson (Mem)

RB: Saquon Barkley (PSU), Ryquell Armstead (Temp), Ray Lawry (ODU), Bryce Love (Stan)

WR: Courtland Sutton (SMU), Keke Coutee (TxTech), Scott Miller (BGSU), Cam Phillips (VaTech), DeAndre McNeal (FlAtl), Corey Willis (CMU)

TE: Jaylen Samuels (NCSt)

K: Gary Wunderlich (Ole Miss)

D/ST: Ohio State

Thoughts: Mason Rudolph should be putting up plenty of fantasy points for the Hotty Totty Hotties. Saquon Barkley will likely be doing the same, as he is up there with the best backs in the country. Sutton is primed to be a big fantasy player as well for SMU, along with some other very high potential options at the position. Ohio States defense may not have been impressive in their first game against Indiana, but should be a safe bet for the rest of the season.

McNutting In Your Mom, Luke Maiers

QB: Will Grier (WVU), Jalen Hurts (Ala), Brandon Harris (UNC), Thomas Sirk (ECU)

RB: Nick Chubb (UGA), Akrum Wadley (Iowa), Alexander Mattison (Boise), Jordan Chunn (Troy)

WR: Parris Campbell (OhSt), Andy Isabella (UMass), C.J. Johnson (Wyo), Penny Hart (GaSt), Quadree Henderson (Pitt)

TE: Maaseiah Francis (SoAl)

K: Redford Jones (Tul)

D/ST: Troy

Thoughts: I just want to say something before I give you a little blurb about my team. I drafted Baker Mayfield and Bo Scarbrough, but I had to make a deal to get one of my dudes. I drafted Baker Mayfield in the first round (keep in mind that I am an Iowa fan) thinking that the Iowa tailback, Akrum Wadley, would not go in the second and I could get him in the third. But Goddamn It, wouldn’t you guess it, he went in the second round, so I had to trade Baker and Scarborough for Wadley and Jalen Hurts. I’ll do anything for my dude Akrum. Any so the rest of my team is pretty decent, but I now LOVE my running backs. To pair with Wadley I have Nick Chubb who is ready to shit on the SEC East. I like Georgia’s chances in the SEC a lot this season. My running game paired with the receiving game makes my team elite. Two of my three wide receivers have amazing QBs: Parris Campbell (Ohio St.) and CJ Johnson (Wyoming). Those are basically the highlights of my team, McNutting In Your Mom. The quest for a championship is underway.

My Team Rhules, Austin Brown

QB: Josh Allen (Wyo), Nick Fitzgerald (MissSt), Zach Abey (Navy), Justin Herbert (Ore)

RB: Royce Freeman (Ore), Jeffery Wilson (NorTx), Myles Gaskin (Wash), Kyle Hicks (TCU), Shaq Vann (EMU)

WR: Richie James (MidTN), Blake Lynch (Bay), Kam McKnight (LaTech), Linell Bonner (Hou)

TE: Hayden Hurst (SoCar)

K: Daniel Carlson (Aub)

D/ST: Utah

Thoughts: This is another team that spreads the love. Strong quarterbacks with top NFL prospect Josh Allen and unconventional quarterback Nick Fitzgerald will put up plenty of big games. Royce Freeman anchors the running backs and should put up plenty of points on his own. But the big strength of this team is the wide receivers, headlined by Richie James who is going to put up some video game numbers this season.

National Communist Against Athletes, Austin Montgomery

QB: Brandon Dawkins (Ari), Kenny Hill (TCU), Josh Rosen (UCLA), Brandon Wimbush (ND)

RB: Derrius Guice (LSU), Mark Walton (Miami (FL)), Larry Rose III (NMSt), Davin Singletary (FlAtl)

WR: Christian Kirk (TxAM), Equanimeous St. Brown (ND), Papi White (Ohio), N’Keal Harry (AzSt), KaVontae Turpin (TCU)

TE: Isaac Nauta (UGA)

K: Josh Williams (SMU)

D/ST: Miami (FL)

Thoughts: The National Communists Against Athletes commemorates the great T-shirt the great Brian Bosworth wore during the 1987 Orange Bowl. The “Boz” was the first major figure to acknowledge the crappy, crooked, and communist like nature of the organization that governs college football athletics.  My draft strategy was to draft offensive players who had high usage rates, and played in offenses with uptempo style of play. I believe I accomplished that with all my players with exception of Derrius Guice. However, I expect the Tigers to run the ball with Guice over 30 times a game. My team has a lot of untapped potential on the bench that is highlighted by new Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush, star FAU running back Devin Singletary, and comeback player of the year Josh Rosen. I’m really happy with my team, but would like to trade for a guy like Baker Mayfield in order to honor the team’s legendary roots.

Win or Lose We Still Booze, Chris Schneider

QB: JT Barrett (OhioSt), Sam Darnold (USC), Jake Browning (Wash),

RB: Ronald Jones II (USC), Benny Snell Jr. (KY), LJ Scott (MichSt), Jalin Moore (AppSt)

WR: Michael Gallup (ColSt), Calvin Ridley (Ala), Teddy Veal (LaTech), Ray-Ray McCloud (Clem), Jimmy Williams (ECU)

TE: Adam Breneman (UMass)

K: Emmit Carpenter (Minn)

D/ST: Washington, Alabama

Thoughts: With J.T Barrett & Sam Darnold as my QBs, my fantasy team is gonna have a better 1-2 punch than Mike Tyson circa 1988. And honestly that’s not even a hot take, that’s just a cold hard fact. Now why would I opt to draft two QB’s in the first two rounds? Simple. The RB & WR positions are friggin’ stacked with talent this season and frankly who wouldn’t want a pair of “Heisman-hopeful” Quarterbacks leading their team??? Not me… Anyways, speaking of RBs and WRs, with guys like Ronald Jones II, Jalen Moore, Calvin Ridley, and Michael Gallup, I have no doubt that my team is going to destroy this league like Jared Lorenzen at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Surprisingly, my “difference maker” for this season isn’t a QB, RB, or WR… it’s actually my TE, Adam Breneman from UMass. Breneman was a monster last season, putting up 70 catches for 808 yards and 8 touchdowns. No, that’s not a typo… HE PUT UP RECEIVER-LIKE STATS LAST YEAR. But if last year’s numbers weren’t enough for you, he just had 9 catches for 179 yards last week against Hawaii. Beast mode. All in all, the rest of the guys in this league may have “decent” teams, but who the hell settles for decent. My team is gonna be dominant.
