If you aren’t familiar with South Carolina basketball star Sindarius Thornwell, Gamecocks fans will tell you that he is one of the most exciting player’s in college basketball. In short, Sindarius Thornwell is a bad, bad man. Don’t believe me? Well take a look at him jamming on Kentucky’s Malik Monk on Saturday night and get back to me.

If you still need to hear it from someone else, when asked to describe his star player, Gamecock’s coach Frank Martin responded, “What can you say about Sin, he’s a winner.” While their are a thousand different ways to describe Thornwell, “winner” is certainly one of the most applicable. Standing at 6’5, 215 pounds, the senior guard from Lancaster, South Carolina who has been described as an athletic, scrappy, versatile scorer has averaged 19.4 points, 2.5 steals and helped carry the Gamecock’s to an impressive record of 15-4 this season. Despite a 6 game suspension due to an athletic department violation, Thornwell returned just in time for conference play and led his team on a 5 game win streak against other SEC teams. This dominant win streak only came to an end at the hands of SEC powerhouse Kentucky in a 85-69 Wildcats victory. Although South Carolina suffered a 16 point loss, Sin City still managed to drop a season high 34 points against one of the best teams in the nation in Kentucky.

Interestingly enough, three of South Carolina’s four losses this season came during the six game period in which Thornwell was suspended. Not to say that the Gamecocks are dysfunctional without his presence, as teammates PJ Dozier and Chris Silva have been instrumental in USC’s success this season. But with that being said, Sindarius Thornwell’s return to the squad for SEC play has taken this South Carolina team to a new level of talent and success. Currently Ranked No.23 in the nation and 2nd in the SEC, the Gamecocks are definitely looking to win their conference championship and potentially make some waves in the Big Dance. The sky is the limit for Thornwell as the stage will only get bigger as the season goes on, and if the past is any indication of the future, Sin City should thrive.
