Texas A&M scored their second SEC win of the season with an assist from their clock operator. As you can see in the video, the clock stops in the middle of the play for no apparent reason with 5.6 seconds remaining. Georgia players saw the time remaining and set up what would have been a potential game-winning basket. Bulldogs forward Yante Maten got to the rim and drew a shooting foul while the clock was stopped.
After a review that took several minutes, the officials determined that more than 5.6 seconds ran off the clock before Maten’s shot, and the game was over. The officials were caught between a rock and a hard place as they were forced to declare the game over with Texas A&M winning 63-62.
The tragedy of this is that a great basketball game will now be overshadowed by a guy who was apparently incapable of doing his one job of not pressing the “stop” button during the play. Expect some firings by the end of the weekend.
