On September 13, 2008, Mississippi State and Auburn squared off at Davis Wade Stadium for what would be an instant classic.
It didn’t look as if the barn was ever gonna burn, but with 7:38 left in the half, Will Byrum hit a 35-yard field goal to put the Tigers up 3-0. The offensive showdown ended with very subpar numbers as Miss. State quarterback Wesley Carroll went 10-25 for 78 yards and a pick while his counterpart went 14-26 for 154 yards.
In the 4th quarter though, the Bulldogs defense turned up the volume as an Auburn penalty resulted in a safety with 7:06 left to put the score at 3-2. While Auburn killed Miss. St in total yards, it was an incredibly sad display of offense. We remember this day as a day to bet the under, and a day to hug a loved one that may have had to sit through this dreadful game.
