Tomorrow, the greatest tournament in sports begins. That’s the Masters. The sacred grounds of Augusta National will be littered with golf fanatics and not a speck of trash. Some of the world’s greatest golfers will be teeing off, but on the fans front, they’ll be able to purchase an array of snacks and concessions items for a price that don’t seem to be real. Think of the last time you went to a professional sporting event. For me, it was a Red Sox game last spring. Once I hit Fenways concourse, I grabbed a sausage and peppers and a Sam Adams to wash it down. The total was north of twenty dollars. At Augusta, that’s not the case.
The Most Important Meal Of The Day
Augusta serves breakfast until 10:00 AM and they offer a great selection of items that you can eat while walking past Amen Corner or Pink Dogwood. For only $3.50, you can get yourself a hot coffee and a chicken biscuit. In addition, for an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, you’ll only spend $3. That’s about the same price as Dunkin’ Donuts, but better seeing that you’re at Augusta National. The two other breakfast options up for grabs are a blueberry muffin for $1.50 and the fresh fruit that’s only $2.
You always want to start the day off right with a good breakfast and Augusta offers that. But here’s the thing. That’s not even the tip of the iceberg. It gets way better.
Grab A Sandwich, Maybe Two Or Three
The sandwich menu that Augusta offers is the cream of the crop. It’s impressive. While one of the sandwiches is named the “Masters Club”, and the courses two iconic sandwiches are the pimento cheese sandwich and egg salad sandwich. Both are only a $1.50 and are pretty basic. It’s two slices of fluffy white bread with either pimento cheese or egg salad slathered on both slices. Now, I’ve never been to Augusta, but my dad Pablo Diaz has been a handful of days for practice rounds. He says that they are outstanding. We actually ordered the Masters Pack for this weekend and it came with the pimento spread and egg salad. I’m thrilled to give it a try this weekend.
If pimento cheese or egg salad aren’t your bag, there’s a few more options. Like I mentioned, there’s the Masters Club. For the low fee of $3, you can get a sandwich with three pieces of toasted bread, turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato cut into quarters. Staying in the $3 realm, there’s a simple barbecue sandwich with just pulled pork and barbecue sauce on a brioche bun. That also came in the Masters Pack we ordered so I’ll have a review of that soon.
The few other sandwiches on the board are chicken salad sandwich on brioche bread, a classic chicken sandwich, and a ham and cheese on rye. Nothing too crazy, but still decent options for only $3.
Snacks And Drinks
While I find the price of the food to be wildly low, the drink prices are even better. A soda, bottle of water, or fresh iced tea are only $2.00. At Fenway Park, a soda costs $5.50. These beverage prices are unreal. When it comes to the brews, a domestic and imported beer both cost only $5.00. A beer at Augusta National is cheaper than a Pepsi at Fenway Park or any other major sports arena.
One of their big drinks is the Crows Nest. Named after the area where the amateurs sleep during the tournament, the Masters brew their own signature wheat ale. When it comes to beer, I’m pretty low maintenance. I’ll usually just grab a Michelob or a Coors Light, but I’d 100% grab one of the Crows Nest beers.
Snack wise, you can pickup a bag of potato chips for $1.50 or a bag of peanuts for the same price. At that same price, if you’re looking for sweets, you can grab a chocolate chip cookie. Those came in the package as well and I’ve already tried one. They’re delicious. Two of the more intriguing sweets on the list are the $1.50 caramel popcorn and the $1.00 mini moon pie. These little moon pies are great treats and ones I’d definitely buy.
One item that wasn’t shown on the menu was the famous Masters ice cream sandwich. For only $2.50, you can get this ice cream sandwich, but it’s not like any ice cream sandwich. Between two sugar cookies is Georgia peach ice cream with real peach chunks in it. Yeah, I’m in for that.
My Order
Since the picture of the menu has been going around Twitter, a big question has been posed. What would your order be if you only had $10 in your pocket? Here’s my order.
I first would target a sandwich or two. I’m a huge fan of pimento cheese. The mix of shredded cheddar cheese with mayonnaise and small pimento peppers is unreal. It’s spicy, but so smooth and between two slices of white bread makes perfection. I’ll take two of those. Next, I’m grabbing a beverage. While the cheap beer prices are almost too good to pass on, I’m going to go for a diet coke. It’s a solid and safe choice, but one that’ll go good with the spiciness of the pimentos.
Now with $5 dollars remaining, I’m going strictly for sweets. I’m first going to make sure I secure one of the delicious Georgia peach ice cream sandwiches. Just the thought of biting into two sugar cookies with cold ice cream that has peach chunks in it makes me excited. With my final $2.50 I’m staying in the dessert section. The $2.50 range is tough because I could grab another pimento cheese sandwich or an egg salad sandwich, but I can’t get a Masters Club sandwich. So with my remaining money, I’m getting two mini moon pies for a dollar each. That leaves me with a lot of food and $.50 left in my pocket.
