The Earth Peaked During The 2013 Fiesta Bowl

Do you ever just sit back and reminisce on all the great BCS bowl games of yesteryear? One of the memories was of the 2013 Fiesta Bowl between Oregon and Kansas State. Now you may be asking yourself “what is so special about a 35-17 game?” Well, I’m glad you asked.

Not only was it one of the last years the game was sponsored by Tostitos, but the 2013 Fiesta Bowl also featured the rarest scoring play in football, the one-point safety.

It just so beautiful. The fact that this scoring play is so impossible makes it so amazing that it happened fairly recently. But how does this happen? Well, let me tell you.

A team attempting an extra point or two-point conversion scores what would normally be a safety, that attempting team is awarded one point.

So, because Kansas State recovered the blocked kick outside of their endzone, and then retreated back into their endzone, Oregon was awarded one point.

I love the fact that this rule exists, and I love the fact that it happened on color television.

The only thing the game of football is missing is a box score that only has a 1 for a quarter.
