If you missed this weekend of college football, I’m sorry. But look no further than right here to catch up on what happened.
- Alabama is the best team in the country. Period.
Clemson is good. Ohio State and Michigan are contenders. But Alabama is the best team in the country. It’s really a fact at this point. The sky is blue. Blue Moon is better than Hamm’s. Alabama is the best team in the country. They had their one scare against Ole Miss, but we know Alabama never plays well against Ole Miss. Besides that game, they have beat their ranked opponents by a total of 150-46. Jalen Hurts has somehow become a Heisman candidate, the defense is flying around, and Saban looks primed to win another title.
- The Big Ten West race has become, dare I say, “interesting?”
Big Ten fans have never cared about the West race. It’s like how Alabama and Tennessee are considered rivals. Everyone knows that all Alabama fans care about is the Auburn game, just like how Big Ten fans only care about the East race. Well, the year is different. All of a sudden, Wisconsin has shown it could beat both Michigan and Ohio State in a rematch. And on top of that, Nebraska is a top-10 team in the country. A showdown in Madison with Wisconsin and Nebraska could lead to the West champion. And that winner? For once it could lead to the Big Ten champion.
- The year of the two loss teams.
The two years we have had the CFB playoff have given us a bunch of undefeated teams and a few one loss teams. If the dominoes fall in the right place, this year could bring us our first two-loss playoff team. Oklahoma has bounced back after losses to Houston and Ohio State and is in position to win the Big 12. Tennessee could still win the SEC with an upset win in the championship, and Wisconsin could still win the Big Ten with losses against Ohio State and Michigan. A two-loss team crashing the playoff is like college drop-outs getting a second chance by coming back to their college parties, but it might just happen this year.
- Brett Bielema is putting together a sneaky good program at Arkansas.
When Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas, I thought he was crazy. Who would leave a program that was going to Rose Bowl after Rose Bowl for a struggling program in the toughest conference in the country? Sounds to me like he had one to many one night and made a spontaneous decision. But maybe not. Maybe he knew he was a good enough coach to bring this program back. After recording his second win over a ranked opponent this season last weekend against Ole Miss, it is apparent that he has this program heading in the right direction.
- Clemson is this year’s Michigan State.
Remember Michigan State last year? Every week they would escape with wins against Rutgers, Indiana, and most notably Michigan. They just seemed like a team destined to make the playoff. Take a look at Clemson now. A couple plays here and there and they have losses against Auburn, Troy, Louisville, and NC State. They just keep escaping though. They got tough games against Florida State, Pitt, and the ACC championship, but it just seems destined to work out for the Tigers.
- Notre Dame…
Every year there is at least one party on campus that is supposed to be as big as any all year and it ends up being a dud. Notre Dame is the same way this year in college football. They were national champion candidates in the preseason and everyone was pumped about them, but they have turned into a dud. There is a legitimate chance they could end the year 3-9. Bye bye, Brian Kelly. I hope you enjoyed the party.
- Prepare for the Miami crumble.
Two weeks ago, I wrote about how there was a chance Miami would crumble after a hot start. After starting 4-0, they have recorded two straight losses. With games against Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and Pitt in the next three weeks, they could find themselves trapped at a mediocre season right where they left off coming into the season.
