Ah the dreaded hot seat. Every season we see a handful of below average starting quarterbacks get thrown on the hot seat; and some survive while others get cut, traded, or even worse…traded to Chicago. This season is no different for quarterbacks; here are three starting quarterbacks for the 2022 season on not just the hot seat, but the ROASTING THROWN.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones

I said it in my blog where I graded the NFC starting quarterbacks that Daniel Jones was not good. Nothing has changed since Thursday when I wrote that. In his three seasons with the Giants thus far, Jones has only thrown for over 3,000 yards once and has a 45-29 touchdown to interception ratio. The worst part about this though, is that he’s regressed every year. As a rookie, he tossed for 3,027 yards and in 2020, he threw for 2,943 yards. Last season there was a bigger drop off when he only passed for 2,428 yards.

Another reason Jones is on the hot seat is because he has not played a full season; out of 49 possible games, Jones played in 38 of them. The Giants do run into an issue though. They don’t really have anyone on the roster to replace Jones and build their future around. However, the incoming class of quarterbacks is impressive. With the Giants most likely finishing towards the bottom of the league again, they’ll be in the market to snag a quarterback like Will Levis, Bryce Young, or CJ Stroud. It’s shit or get off the pot time for Danny Dimes in the Big Apple. What’ll it be?

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo

One minute you’re playing in the Super Bowl; the next, you’re on the verge of getting replaced by a kid from North Dakota State. In 5 seasons with San Francisco, Garoppolo has only thrown for over 3,800 yards and 20 touchdowns twice. He’s also only played in over eight games, twice in his time with the 49ers. Questions of durability and underachieving play will land Garoppolo on the streets of San Francisco sooner than later.

Something else that needs to be taken into consideration is the emergence of Trey Lance. Last season in 6 games, Lance showcased his big arm and mobility as he passed for 603 yards and 5 touchdowns while rushing for 168 yards and 1 score.

The 49ers spent the number 3 overall pick on Lance in the 2021 draft so they clearly see a future with him. He has all the intangibles to be a good quarterback in this league and if he were on a team like Houston or Carolina last season, he would have been QB1; but that very handsome cockroach Jimmy G somehow won the starting job. With Garoppolo currently nursing a shoulder injury, Lance is taking the first team reps. Don’t be shocked if Garoppolo isn’t on the 49ers 53 man roster for the 2022 season.

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill

You may be a little surprised to see Tannehill on the hot seat, but let me explain. Tannehills very lucrative contract is on the verge of being up and at age of 33, it’d be unlikely that the Titans bring him back. Of course, that is unless Tannehill performs. While he is very consistent, he’s not worth what the Titans are currently paying him; that would be 29.5 million dollars.

Another prime factor in Tannehill’s hot seat position is that Malik Willis is waiting in the wings. The rookie out of Liberty was one of the top college quarterbacks the past two years throwing for 5,117 yards and 47 touchdowns. Barring an MVP caliber season out of Tannehill in 2022, get ready to see Malik Willis in the future because Tannehill’s days are numbered.
