So this video of Tim Tebow talking about the new law in California this past week. If you are not familiar, the new law will allow student-athletes in the state of California to profit of their own image.
Tebow went on ESPN and said
“I know we live in a selfish culture where it’s all about us, but we’re just adding and piling it on to that, where it changes what’s special about college football,” he said Friday. “We turn it into the NFL where who has the most money that’s where you go,”
“That’s why people are more passionate about college sports than they are about the NFL. That’s why the stadiums are bigger in college than the NFL because it’s about your team, about your university, about where my family wanted to go, about where my grandfather had a dream of seeing Florida win an SEC championship and you’re taking that away so young kids can earn a dollar. And that’s not where I feel like college football needs to go.”
Wow Tim, so cool. Congratulations on being able to make YOUR dream come true. YOUR dream does not matter to a lot of these athletes. YOUR background is way different than a lot of people
Let me say, it’s great to have school spirit. There’s nothing like game day at your school. But when you can’t see why this is a really good thing for sports, you are either misinformed, ignorant, or both.
Tebow is a privileged dunce. He grew up with wealthy parents. I’m going to guess at his time in Florida, he didn’t have to skip meals and sleep on couches. He probably didn’t work late nights, or have to go weeks without gas in his car.
Do you ever wonder why rough areas typically breed some of the best football players? because they will do anything, ANYTHING to make it to the pros and take care of their family.
For some people it’s not about conference championships, national championships, beating your rival, etc: it’s not always about the team. It’s about being an inspiration for less fortunate kids and taking care of friends and family.
Winning championships is a perk of wanting it so bad. Getting money is the name of the game. Non-athletes leave jobs for one that’s better paying all the time, why is it so wrong for athletes to do it, too? Oh yeah, it’s because they are like the circus for us; We just throw peanuts at them and tell them to do cool things.
So go ahead Tebow, tell that kid who grew up in inner-city Chicago that money doesn’t matter since you are so qualified to do so.
Oh yeah and by the way Tebow, you are against college athletes profiting, but your entire career is because of your college image. Without being who you were in college, you wouldn’t be with the Mets, you wouldn’t have all these endorsements, and you wouldn’t be on ESPN. You should be the poster boy of being able to profit off your image. Tim Tebow really had the worst take of all time
