Five-star guard Jalen Warley committed to Leonard Hamilton and Florida State on Sunday. He joins other top-50 recruits Bryce McGowens, John Butler and Matthew Cleveland as the foundation for the Seminoles’ 2021 recruiting class.
Ranked the 23rd-best player and third-best combo guard nationally in the 247Sports Composite, Warley had a number of options. As time progressed, he slowly narrowed his list. In the final weeks, he was choosing between Virginia, Michigan and the Seminoles.
The Norristown, Pa. native told ESPN that there were multiple signs guiding him to Florida State. He said his decision was eased both on and off-the-court. His relationships with the coaches and the program’s style of play were two signs pointing to Tallahassee.
Warley added in his commitment video he looks forward to the Seminoles challenging him “as a student, a leader and a person.”
“I feel like me, paired together with all the talent on the roster, I believe I can bring a national championship to Florida State,” Warley said to ESPN. “I think it’s really exciting and something that’s extremely special.”
With Warley’s commitment, Florida State has five total commitments for next year. Warley, McGowens, Butler and Cleveland are all ranked in the top-10 at their respective positions. The Seminoles also have a commitment pending from the 2019 class in Naheem McLeod, who went to a junior college coming out of high school.
There are only two other schools that have commitments from multiple top-50 recruits. Those are Baylor and Ohio State. However, Florida State’s four oaths tops the Bears and Buckeyes, both of whom have two such commitments.
