Touchdowns & Tailgates: Week 8 Preview

Generated by IJG JPEG Library

Will this be the week Alabama finally falls from grace? Can Iowa pull the upset over a Wisconsin team that has lost two in a row? How bad will Michigan embarrass Illinois? Does Auburn have what it takes to beat Arkansas? Will Michigan State continue to suck more than a blonde with daddy issues? These questions and more will be answered in week 8 so get in shotgun formation and let’s talk some ball.

#1 Alabama vs. #6 Texas A&M
My man Trevor Knight can become an instant legend at Texas A&M if he pulls the ol’ 2012 Johnny Football and upsets the Crimson Tide. And who’s to say Knight can’t do it? The guy has 9 touchdowns rushing already to add to another 9 touchdowns in the passing game. But while the Aggies have faced tough tests so far, they have not played anyone like Alabama. Alabama is a different kind of beast, with a defensive line that is essentially composed of all first and second round draft picks, they are harder to get past than a Donald Trump wall. Jalen Hurts is an upcoming star at QB and should have no problem leading the Tide to a victory.

Prediction: Roll Tide. Texas A&M can’t keep up.

#17 Arkansas vs. #21 Auburn
I’ve been high on the Hogs for the majority of the season but it always seemed to me that they were good but just not good enough to win the big games. Well, my opinion changed after last week’s beauty of a win over Ole Miss; Ole Miss hasn’t been insane but I consider that a big win. Austin Allen is showing some poise in the pocket and I think every Arkansas fan should feel really good about this kid. After a slow start to their season, Auburn has been hotter than Paulina Gretzky’s Instagram account(okay maybe that’s a little bit of an overstatement). The Tigers smoked Mississippi State last weekend and I’m very curious to see if they can do the same to Arkansas.

Prediction: Arkansas wins a close one. Woo Pig Sooie.

#23 Ole Miss vs. #25 LSU
Man oh man, Ole Miss has been so great at times this year and so disappointing at others. A win last week would have made them 4-2 with one of the losses being a good loss to Alabama, but instead, they shit the bed and are looking at a 3-3 record with no real big wins. Still, with Swag Kelly behind center Ole Miss always has the potential to score 40 points on even the best defenses. Their defense needs to be better, but the Rebels are incredibly dangerous when they bring their A-game. LSU is a toss up, they have won 4 games but none of them have been against good teams and in their toughest games with Auburn and Wisconsin, they lost. Just don’t forget they will be getting Leonard Fournette, one of the nation’s best RBs, back this week and that alone could be a gamechanger.

Prediction: This is silly. LSU is not a top 25 team. Ole Miss by two scores.

Quick Hits:

Wisconsin bounces back with a big win over Iowa- A lot of our site will hate this pick but the Badgers are pissed off after two tough losses; Wiscy is gonna light up Iowa like Northwestern’s DL lit up MSU QBs last week.

Colorado over Stanford- Plain and simple Stanford is not good this year, and I like Colorado a lot.

Oklahoma destroys Texas Tech- Oklahoma is finally pulling it all together, WAY too late in the season of course, but nonetheless I see them going off against Texas Tech.

West Virginia squeaks out a win over TCU- West Virginia is great this year but I think TCU will give them a run for their money on Saturday. Ultimately I see West Virginia holding on, but still.

Ohio State survives a scare from Penn State- Something about this whole “whiteout” night game is going to make PSU play extra fired up, but I think OSU holds on in a scary game.

Michigan annihilates Illinois- Lovie Smith is not going to know what hit him. I expect Harbaugh to go for a 2-point conversion after Michigan is up 3 scores because Harbaugh is that much of an asshole. Gross.

Michigan State finally gets a win over Maryland- I don’t expect it to be a blowout but I have a feeling MSU is going to finally get it together this week as they prepare for Michigan.

Well, that’s all folks. Make sure to hit the tailgates hard this weekend, party even harder when your team wins, and as always stay lit my friends.
