I recently stumbled across an article on ESPN.com in which the headline reads; “The price of glory: UCF says unbeaten season worth $200 million”

Some of my first thoughts after reading this headline;

“How on earth do you put a price tag on a season?”

“Who appraised this?”

“Is UCF putting their season…up for sale?”

Of course, they already declared themselves “National Champions”. They even threw a fucking parade (which was probably expensive, like they claim their season to be), so needless to say, it’s pretty apparent UCF is confident as fuck about their accomplishment.

As they should be!

Let’s us not forget their 34-27 New Year Six Bowl victory over Auburn. Want to know a couple teams Auburn beat during the regular season? How about Alabama and Georgia! Those two teams wound-up playing each other in the National Championship game.

That being said, anyone with the smallest amount of common sense knows that logically, this means UCF is better than those two teams! At least I’m guessing that’s how UCF looks at it.

Finally, back to the article itself.

As it turns out, the massive value being referred to is thanks in part to the advertising exposure the program received due to their success. $171 million of that $200 came from their last four games alone. Now this whole thing makes a lot more sense.

Something else to consider while looking at this large figure is the UCF football program’s future.

Anytime a non-power 5 team has an amazing season like UCF’s, many begin to speculate if the program will make a jump into a power 5 conference. We saw something of this nature happen earlier in the decade with the TCU Horned Frogs.

Another important topic UCF’s unbeaten season brings forth is the legitimacy of a non-power 5 team’s chances of appearing in the college football playoff. Also, whether or not the playoff should be expanded beyond four teams.

UCF will have their work cut out for them in order to prove they can hang with “the big boys” year-in and year-out.

The program’s level of confidence definitely makes things a lot more interesting.

The team will get two chances in 2018 regular season to take on power 5 opponents; Sep. 15 @North Carolina and Sep. 29 against Pitt.

Personally, I’ve become much more of a UCF supporter. How could any college football fans not be?
