Urban Meyer Releases Statement, Says A Whole Lot of Nothing

Oh no.

Yeah…. Who proofread this for Urban? There is a lot to unpack in this statement, and honestly, I am not sure how much of it will help him. We all knew a statement was coming. But this, this is not ideal for Urbs. I did my best to break down the statement, so let’s see what I got.

1.) He claims that he ran everything super tight at Florida, and I think history has proven that that is simply not true. He basically had the Devil and God in Hernandez and Tebow, so I guess he believes in balance?

2.) HE KNEW. He admits it. You can argue all you want about how he should not be fired for his alleged lack of action, but in what job can you be arrested for domestic violence and not be expected to be fired? That simply baffles me. He already had one strike, if it was as cut and dry as it should have been, we aren’t in this situation right now.

3.) The “The power of what I say and how I say it…” is incredibly laughable. You mean you are JUST NOW realizing that, as one of the best coaches in the country and at a top five program, your words carry weight?

4.) Also, for you to accuse a sportswriter of making up a story for an unknown motive, when you know how accessible information is now, is just ignorant. Talk about digging your own grave.

5.) He published this on his Twitter at 5 pm ET on a Friday. If this isn’t the most clear news dump of all time, then I don’t know what is. It’s all just so bizarre.

It does sound like there is a whole hell of a lot more to this story than we know right now, and more is sure to come out in the following days, weeks and months, but as it stands, what we already know, coupled with what I’d consider a pretentious and tone deaf statement, has done him no favors. Every sign points to him not surviving this. Even if he does, his credibility with the media, fans, and college football as a whole will likely take a horrific hit.

If you want to discuss this, or just yell at me for my continued Urban Meyer coverage, @ me at @jacobthemanley on twitter. I’m sure I’ll have plenty more on this in the coming weeks.
