Defense travels. End of blog. Ok well obviously not end of the blog but that is one of the big reasons why this Virginia team is different then the others before this one. Below are a couple of other reasons to back up their dominance!
The game against Pitt.
While Pitt is the worst of the Power 5 schools in the NCAA they are still a NCAA team and they only managed 7 points in the first half AT HOME. If you are new to college sports, being at home is a huge advantage and only managing 7 points is a crazy feat. You could put my Division 3 Farmingdale team against any other Division 1 team and I honestly think they can manage 7 points. Which is why “defense travels” is the best way to describe how they are the best team in the Nation.
More than 1 “Guy”
If you look at all the Virginia teams in the past they were carried by 1 guy and they lived and died by him, Joe Harris, Justin Anderson, Malcolm Brogdan and London Perrantes to name a few. This year they they have a go-to-guy by the name of Kyle Guy, but he has not had to do it all alone. Accompanying guy on the court are Devon Hall and Ty Jerome, who are both scoring at a pace close to him, so when 1 of the 3 are having an off night there is someone who can pick up the slack.
The Coaching
Tony Bennett has to be the most underrated coaches in the league. Yes he has won 2 ACC coaches of the year but since his first year at Washington State he has not won coach of the year, and in the last 5 years he has lost more than 8 games only once. Plus, it is not even mathematically possible for them to lose more than 6 games this year. If he does not win coach of the year this year there should be outrage in Charlottesville.
So when it comes Tournament time be sure to fill out Virginia to at least the final four and if you want to bet the o/u make sure you hammer the under .
