I’m of the opinion that Hockey jerseys are inherently better than those of other sports. There are a few reasons for this. The biggest one for me is that there’s simply more to work with. You’ve gotta dress up jerseys, gloves, helmets, socks, pants, etc. there’s so much room for so many looks. The other reason is that some of the coolest logos and mascots reside in Hockey. From the Original Six to the Vegas Golden Knights, the NHL alone has had some of the best looks in all of sports.

As good as NHL jerseys generally are, college hockey is even better. Here are some of the best looks in the sport.

Atlantic

Air Force

Air Force has had some really slick looks over the years. Royal blue and white is as close to a perfect color combo as you can get. Tastefully throw in some grey here and there and you’ve got the perfect palette to work with.

Big Ten

Penn State

Penn State is still a relatively young program but their uniforms are dripping with tradition. The helmets match the football team’s. The navy blue and white was destined to be a great hockey jersey. Their white uniforms are one of my favorites in all of hockey. The white accent on the gloves is a great touch. Details matter.

Notre Dame

Notre Dame looks good in every sport. Every uniform combo they roll out looks great. The gold helmets highlight this particular look. The white cages stick out.

Ohio State

This is another uniform that pays homage to its football team. The all-scarlet look with the silver helmet adorned in Buckeye leaves might be the best look in the Big Ten right now. Nike has been very good to Ohio State over the years and this might be their best season for uniforms yet.

ECAC

Princeton

I’m generally not a fan of orange and black but I love the way that Princeton makes it work. The only thing that would make these better to me is removing the numbers from the front of the jersey. I’ve never liked them on the front and never will. But that doesn’t deter me from loving these nonetheless.

Cornell

It’s a simple look that’s reminiscent of the Detroit Red Wings. There are a few minor differences aside from the front of the jersey but it’s a great set of threads.

Union College

I love the school logo on the front. I’m usually a fan of plain sleeves with maybe on stripe on the elbow but that’s because it’s not done well all that often. Union bucks that trend and rolls out these beauties.

Hockey East

Quick thought before moving on; top to bottom this is the best looking conference in college hockey.

Maine

These are some of the most perfectly done jerseys I’ve ever seen. Maine’s got a great logo and color scheme to work with and they absolutely kill it with their hockey uniforms. The hard part here is deciding whether their blue or white uniforms are better looking.

Boston University

Another simple, classic look that never gets old. The white on the gloves is a great accent.

Providence

Another example of great color scheme marrying great design. The text style is perfect and completes a great all-around uniform.

Northeastern

The huskies have far and away the best husky logo of all huskies teams. Black, red and white gives you unlimited possibilities for design and template. They kinda play it safe but there’s nothing wrong with that.

NCHC

Denver

The Pioneers have stayed true to one of the best uniforms in college hockey.

St. Cloud State

So I’m gonna go ahead and dock em a few points because they utilize the ‘toilet seat’ from the Montreal Canadiens logo. St Cloud is pretty similar to Northeastern but they’ve got their own classic logo.

Minnesota-Duluth

It must be a law that teams from Minnesota are required to look good. UMD’s consistently one of the best looks in the NCHC. The lace at the collar is a cool touch. The gloves look great and I’m a big fan of the black cage.

WCHA

Minnesota State-Mankato

The Mavericks boast some strong combos. The yellow on purple is my favorite.

Bowling Green State

I just want to preface this by saying I consistently hate their football uniforms. Having said that, their hockey uniforms are some of the best around. It’s a weird color scheme, but the design is nearly perfect.

Michigan Tech

The Huskies have a few looks that they roll with and I’m a fan of all of em. These might be my favorites.

Lake Superior State

Another Michigan team from the Upper Peninsula that’s got some great threads. Lake State has been pretty good this year and looked good doing so.

Throwbacks/Alternates

North Dakota Fighting Sioux

I understand why it’s not the mascot anymore and I’m not here to argue it one way or the other. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss these.

Miami University Brendan Burke

After the tragic death of Brendan Burke, Miami paid tribute to him by wearing his initials. ‘The Brotherhood’ continues to honor him to this day.

Arizona State

These guys get their own tab. Adidas freakin’ hooked the Sun Devils up.

ACHA

North Carolina State

North Carolina State went a perfect 24-0 this season. No matter what level of hockey we’re talking about, that’s pretty unreal. They’ve also got some of the very best uniforms in college hockey.

Alabama

The Frozen Tide could be a good candidate for D-1 status sooner rather than later. With these uniforms, I hope so.
