While You Were Sleeping – WSU vs. UCLA

The Game

If you were going to miss a Pac-12 after dark game, this was not the one to do so. Well, unless you love defense.

This game was as good as over at halftime with the Cougs up 35-17. Anthony Gordon accounted for all of the WSU touchdowns as he threw 5 with ease. I actually turned the game off to watch the Netflix special starring Zach Galifianakis “Between Two Ferns“. (Which was a quality watch).

When I flipped the game back on, I wasn’t concerned. The Cougs were up 10 late in the 3rd. The offense began to sputter and couldn’t put up points as the Bruins scored 43 second half points to this point. After a third WSU WR fumble, the UCLA Bruins were in prime position to score, which they did.

After watching Anthony Gordon toss a cool 9 touchdowns, I assumed 1:07 on the clock was too much time. Then, Anthony Gordon was hit with a sack fumble on what I believed would be the game winning drive.

What happens now?

This is obviously a stake in the heart of the Cougs playoff chances. Granted I am probably only person at Student Union that believed this is a thing, but still true nonetheless. It only gets tougher for the Cougs as they go on the road to face Utah and then Arizona State.

The Bruins may have saved Kelly’s job with this offensive outburst. It also has everyone believing might still be a play-calling wizard. UCLA has a good chance to get above .500 as they face Arizona, Oregon St. and Stanford in the following weeks.

Recap

I am not only upset that this game did not end in our favor, but I’m also upset I wasn’t there. I had a chance to get tickets but I decided against going to one of the best college football games of the year. If there’s two things I definitively learned tonight it’s this: Always pull the trigger on betting the over at WSU games and on buying tickets to go to a game. (Shoutout Cody for the sage advice)

Also, if you guys feel the need to go to bed early and get ready for NFL Sunday, I’ll be doing weekly recaps of the Pac-12 after dark games to check out 10 am on Sunday morning.
