Lilly Donahue | Indiana University
Adidas announced that they will give an ISLAND to the NFL combine prospect who breaks Chris Johnson’s 40 yards dash record of 4.24 seconds. An island. To be fair, adidas did not specify where this island is, so it could very well be one of China’s newly created islands in the South China Sea, but an island’s an island! If someone offered me an island in return for a fast 40 then you can bet your ass that I’d transform into the second coming of Lighting McQueen to snatch up my own island! So, of the 300+ CFB players who were invited to the combine, which speedster has the best shot at becoming the proud owner of a braaaand neeeew island? Let’s take a look:
Curtis Samuel, WR, Ohio State
Samuel starred for OSU as a hybrid RB-WR, and his straight line speed will serve him well in the combine. Island Name: Buckeye Bay
JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Southern Cal
JuJu is probably the second fastest prospect coming out of USC (Adoree’), but he still has a shot at taking the island for himself.
Island Name: JuJu’s Jungle
Dede Westbrook, WR, Oklahoma
Westbrook burst onto the CFB scene this year, large in part due to his amazing speed. Plus we all know that OU players have to best fast to outrun the cops….
Island Name: Probation Palms
Stacey Coley, WR, Miami
Coley is an underrated WR from the U whose speed could propel his name up the draft board. He could be a dark horse in the island race.
Island Name: “I Went to College in Miami So Why Do I Even Need an Island” Island
Shelton Gibson, WR, West Virginia
Gibson is one of the fastest prospects in the draft, and anyone who has to live in WV definitely deserves an island as reparations.
Island Name: Coal Miner Cove
Speedy Noil, WR, Texas A&M
I don’t actually think that Noil is fast enough to be in consideration for this list, but his name alone deserves consideration. Who better to win than this guy?
Island Name: Speed Lanka (look at a map of South Asia to get this subpar joke)
Adoree’ Jackson, CB, Southern Cal
Jackson is both my and the SUS groupchat’s personal favorite. A dual football-track athlete, Jackson has the tools to blow away Chris Johnson’s record.
Island Name: Adoree’ Atoll
Damontae Kazee, CB, San Diego State
Kazee is a prospect who’s not very well known, but he has blazing fast quickness that could put him in contention for an island.
Island Name: Aztec Archipelago
Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
Hooker is one of the few non-offensive players on this list, but he still has the speed to be a major competitor. Plus, if he names his island after his surname he’s sure to get a visit from Lane Kiffin!
Island Name: Hooker Reef
Jabrill Peppers, S/LB, Michigan
Peppers is the most unique prospect on this list since he played LB at Michigan. In the NFL, however, he’ll lineup at SS, and his talents as a returner showcase his quickness.
Island Name: Khaki Cay
John Ross, WR, Washington
Ross is tall and lanky, which is a good recipe for speed. He lit up opposing defenses with his speed, and his talents will be in the spotlight at the combine.
Island Name: Space Needle Sands
