After Toronto failed to snag Michigan State’s Taro Hirose, they went out and got another Michigan star In WMU’s Colt Conrad. The former Bronco just reached an agreement with the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs AHL affiliate.
Conrad was a star during his time in Kalamazoo. He totaled 110 career points, 41 goals, and 69 assists. He’s coming off a career-best 38 points and has been a four-time All-NCHC selection.
The Maple Leafs organization is loaded and the big club is looking at being perennial Stanley Cup contenders. Going home to Canada and playing in a historic and winning franchise like the Maple Leafs should help Conrad’s development greatly. This move can only make Student Union’s own Chad Collins happy. His Leafs are going to be loaded for years to come.
Conrad had this to say about his time in Kalamazoo, ” I would like to thank the community of Kalamazoo, who supported our team through thick and thin, especially the Lawson Lunatics. To the best student section in college hockey – keep doing what you do. There is nothing like coming out of the dressing room to see the rink half-filled up with our fellow students fired up for game time.”
The Broncos’ season just came to an end on Monday at the hands of Colorado College. WMU was the three seed in the conference tourney but couldn’t avoid the first round upset. The Broncos got off to a hot start to the season, but hit a slump to end the year. Conrad looks to get back on the ice immediately in Toronto.
