If I am Zach Smith’s attorneys right now, I am shaking my head until it falls off. I am just assuming right now, but I do not think that Zach Smith consulted with his lawyers before taking to twitter and going on a tirade-of-the-year mission.
There are two main things you don’t want to do if you’re under investigation for any crime: go on scorched-earth tear against those who are accusing you–or helping in any sort of way, and using your kids to try to manipulate the public. Zach Smith did both. I am a firm believer in “innocent until proven guilty” philosophy, but doing one or both of these things just gives off a guilty vibe and not at all helps your image.
As you can tell, Zach Smith is pulling out the “kids card” in order to sway the public view. It is a very bold move, especially considering the position he is in where a lot of family people are already outraged at him.
Next up is the outrage towards Brett McMurphy–who broke the original story–pretty much accusing him of lousy journalism, as well as stating the “facts” and who is actually being hurt by this investigation.
Finally, the worst of them, him laying insults on certain people. Calling Brett McMurphy and Paul Finebaum “heartless and moral-less clowns.” Then calling Brenda Tracy, who was a survivor of rape, a “one-sided clown”.
Conclusion
Whether or not he is actually guilty of anything hasn’t been decided yet. No matter your position, everyone can agree that this is a very bad look for him. The frustration he is feeling is understandable–assuming he’s innocent–but the 5th amendment was created for times like this. Again, I am no lawyer, but if I was this would be the time I’d advise Zach Smith to exercise that right.
