Week one of college football is in the books, so why not go over what happened? If you want more of my thoughts just go to www.buckthoughts.gov.www/buckthoughts. Should open as a word document.

SEC Starts Off Hot

Twas a good weekend for the SEC as they start off at a blistering 13-1 with their only loss being Tennessee–shocker amirite? On the other hand guaranteed wins were had by Alabama, Florida, Miss State, Texas A&M, Missouri and South Carolina. SEC also had big victories such as Auburn over #6 Washington and LSU over #8 Miami. Also can’t forget Kentucky with a decent win (by their standards) over Central Michigan and Ole Miss blowing out Texas Tech. So they did good.

Top Big 10 Teams Struggle

As a whole the Big 10 also did very well as they went 11-2 with Nebraska getting their game cancelled. Ohio State and Wisconsin put away their cupcakes with ease, but the same can’t be said about the other ranked Big 10 teams. Both #10 Penn State and #11 Michigan State were both heavy favorites and both were tested by inferior opponents. Penn State had to tie the game with under a minute left to escape with an OT win over App State. While Michigan State also had to score late to barely get by Utah State. Then there’s Michigan. In a game of “Which coach sucks worse in big games” it was Jim Harbaugh who took that crown loud and proud. Braylon Edwards definitely said what we were all thinking–especially Michigan fans.

Heisman Hopefuls

Well Heisman candidates like Will Grier, Drew Lock, and Jonathon Taylor all took advantage of their cupcake games and definitely padded that resume. While other candidates such as Bryce Love and Jake Browning both struggled in their openers, as they did have to take on way tougher teams like San Diego State and Auburn instead of playing Tennessee.

Just for giggles I am adding my own Heisman Hopeful and that honor goes to Kyler Murray. As he went 9 for 11 with 209 yards and 2 touchdowns and exited after one half with a 42-0 lead over the owls. I was a closeted #KylerMurray4Heisman but here I am saying it out loud.

They Are Who We Thought They Were

Needless to say going in to every season the masses look at the Top 25 and scoff at some of the teams who get ranked even though there’s no reason they should be ranked. Then when that team losses week one, there’s a sense of self satisfaction thinking to yourself “Ya I knew that already”. Well here is mine. Of course our usual suspects was Texas and Michigan as they are only ranked because they were once a good football. Both Miami and Florida State were teams I also didn’t think should be ranked at all. Miami ended the season on a terrible note and has a coach who cannot and probably never will win the big games. So what did you expect? Not only did they lose, they got annihilated by LSU.

Then there’s Florida State. This one was more head scratching than the Canes, because the Noles underwent a coaching change and with a majority of the roster that had to reschedule a cupcake game so they can get a bowl game against another cupcake. The coach who used Mickey Mouse as a source of inspiration and was more worried about getting their dance moves on fleek then practicing. Of all the debuts I have seen in my life, the only one worse than this debut was Willie Taggart’s debut at USF where they also got embarrassed by McNeese State 53-21.
