Week 4 was exciting! As a student and a fan I was at the Cincinnati game when they came back from a 21-0 deficit. That was so much fun to see live, but that’s not what I’m here to tell you right now. This is the weekly review of the biggest win/most cupcake win of the week. This one was a bit tougher than last week because there were some big wins. 5 ranked teams lost this week. There was one huge upset though Old Dominion beating Virginia Tech by 2 TDs. We will be looking at that game and Ohio St.’s easy win over Tulane.
Most Cupcake Win of the Week: #4 Ohio St. beats Tulane 49-6
Dwayne Haskins came out firing this game with 304 yards and 5 TDs all in the first half. He sat out the whole second half as OSU had built up a 42-6 lead. Haskins has been on a TD tear this year as he is among the nation’s leaders in TD passes so far. The second half was a little bit of a snoozer, as OSU only scored 7 points all in the 4th quarter, and Tulane failed to put any points on the board in the second half. Tulane gained a total of 256 yards of total yards and no turnovers against the OSU defense. They gave up 570 total yards on defense as they could not stop the OSU passing attack. With Urban back, OSU did exactly what they should have done. They rolled over Tulane and takes home the Most Cupcake Win of the Week.
Biggest Win of the Week: Old Dominion beats #13 Virginia Tech 49-35
Virginia Tech marched into this game favored by -29 points. They were rolling this season, winning their first two games this season very convincingly. This week though, their defense got smacked around. Blake LaRussa came into the game during the second series of the game and proceeded to shred the VT defense for 495 yards and 4 TDs. VT took a 28-21 lead with 32 seconds left in the 3rd. Then they went on to give up back-to-back scores to Old Dominion. ODU had the ball and a 42-35 lead with 2 and a half minutes left in the game. ODU attempted to run the clock out but instead Jeremy Cox broke a run for a 40 yard touchdown to seal the game. This is one of the biggest upsets ever. ODU coach Bobby Wilder called this game, “One of the biggest moments in ODU history”. ODU’s 14 point win over VT is the Biggest Win of the Week.
