Week 5 was another rather exciting week of football. Clemson came back late to stay undefeated, Notre Dame is rolling with another win against a ranked team, and Michigan barely survived an upset. This week in the review of the biggest win/most cupcake win of the week, we will be looking at the cakewalk that Alabama had, as well as Ohio State’s huge win over the Nittany Lions. 

Most Cupcake Win of the Week: #1 Alabama beat Louisiana 56-14

Alabama came into this game as heavy favorites, obviously. The line was 48.5, and even though Alabama dominated this game, they did not cover the spread. They probably would’ve covered if Heisman hopeful Tua Tagovailoa played more than just the first half. He went 8-8 for 128 yards and 2 TDs. He split time in the first half with Jalen Hurts and they ended up with a 49-0 halftime lead. Hurts played in his 5th game this season, making him ineligible to redshirt this year. Meaning he will only have one more year of eligibility.

Alabama dominated on all sides of the ball. Totaling 608 yards of offense, while only giving up 288 yards. They forced 2 turnovers, both interceptions. They also had a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown. ULL has had a rough 3 weeks, as they are on a 3-game losing streak. 2 of those losses coming against Bama and Miss St. Bama dominated this game from the get-go and it was a no-brainer that they were going to win. I’m surprised it took this long into the season, but Alabama finally gets the Most Cupcake Win of the Week.

Biggest Win of the Week: #4 Ohio St. beats #9 Penn St. 27-26

Down 5 with 4:35 left, ball on the 4-yard line. Penn St. had OSU right where they wanted them. Backed up to their own end zone, right in the teeth of their student section. But Dwayne Haskins decided it was go-time. He hit J.K. Dobbins for 35 yards and got them some breathing room. Later in the drive, Haskins hit K.J. Hill on another screen pass and he got a couple blocks on his way into the end zone from 24 yards out. This game was an instant classic.

Penn St. came out of the gates dominating on defense but couldn’t quite get going on offense. They forced OSU to punt in 7 of their first 8 drives, and intercepted Haskins in the other drive. But they only managed 2 FGs and a TD from it. Trace McSorley had a historic night, setting a Penn St. school record for most yards of total offense with 461 yards. He ran for 175 yards and threw for 2 TDs. But down one with 1:16 left, Penn St. faced a 4th and 5 at the OSU 43. James Franklin decided to take the ball out of Mcsorley’s hands and ran a draw played that was stopped immediately for a 2-yard loss. OSU lined up in victory formation and ran the clock out for the W. OSU went into Beaver Stadium, with largest crowd in stadium history, and escaped with a W. Giving them the Biggest Win of the Week.
