A Junior outside linebacker from Boise State, Curtis Weaver is considered to be one of the safer prospects in this year’s draft. He’s a good athlete, but not an exceptional one. He has a good first step, but isn’t necessarily explosive. He is fresh off a year where he had 13.5 sacks while winning the Mountain West’s 2019 Defensive Player of the Year. Curtis Weaver measures in at 6’3″ and 265 pounds, a solid size for an NFL defensive end.
Positives:
Weaver’s hands jump off the screen when you’re watching him. He rarely gets beat to the punch and has a knack for knowing where to attack. As mentioned, he does have a really nice first step. He consistently got past linemen this year with that jump. Can stand up or have his hand in the dirt, but was more effective with his hand down due to his lack of agility. Exceptional football IQ. He consistently made the right decisions.
Negatives:
The bend needs to be worked on. He struggles bringing his hips around and getting the edge on linemen. Doesn’t have one exceptional move, but a plethora of okay-to-good ones. Weaver lacks lateral speed and is beatable in open space. Didn’t have the best competition at Boise State as most of his highlights came against Marshall, Wyoming, UNLV, etc. His worst game of the year came against Washington, 1 of 2 power five teams he played this year.
