It was a great year for the 49ers in 2019. They had the top defense in the NFL, the offense was efficient, and they were able to make it back to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they fell to the Chiefs.

Offense:

We of course have to start with the QB, Jimmy Garoppolo. Now, I cant not figure out if this guy is great, ok, or bad. He had great games, boneheaded interceptions, and a lot of missed passes, including the potential winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.

Personally, I think Garoppolo is fine for this team. Their identity is the defense and the offense plays well enough to win games.

In terms of Garoppolo’s weapons, he doesn’t have the best names in the game, but he has a solid, and deep arsenal. With the addition of Aiyuk, the 49ers have found a replacement for Emmanuel Sanders, who was known for his YAC.

Garoppolo will have three main targets, Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and all-pro TE, George Kittle. That’s a pretty good receiving core for an offense that literally just has to be decent.

After trading Matt Breida, the 49ers are left with Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman. Both of whom, rushed for over 500 yards last season. Much like the receiving core, not the most talented position room in the NFL, but a very productive one at that.

Defense:

The second ranked defense in the NFL was headlined by a front four of Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, Dee Ford, and DeForest Buckner. Now after the trade of Buckner to the Colts, they replaced him with Kinlaw instead of paying, possibly, the weakest (and that is not a negative thing) link of that defensive line.

Fred Warner, Kwon Alexander, and Dre Greenlaw, are all undersized, but quick linebackers. That’s what makes the defense for the 49ers so great, they have guys flying all over the field. This is part of the reason they were able to hold opposing TE’s to the fewest yards receiving (552.)

After a blow Achilles, Richard Sherman returned to his all-pro form and helped the 49ers allow the fewest passing yards in over a decade.

I have the 49ers winning 13 games again. I think they are to strong on defense to underperform. As I said, the offense will do just enough to win games, which is fine, but can it actually win them a Super Bowl?
