The city of Los Angeles has been very fortunate with a variety of sports teams for fans to cheer for. From the Los Angeles Lakers to the Los Angeles Dodgers, there are many sports that surround the Los Angeles area. However, there is a new sports team coming soon and its name is Angel City FC.
There is no shortage of Los Angeles soccer teams for fans to root for as there are two men’s teams already established in the Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles Football Club. But, the city has never had a women’s soccer team to root for, until now with the creation of Angel City FC which is planning to play in the NWSL in 2022. The creation of this team has many ownership groups, sponsors, investors, and activists going into this start-up project. Once again, we see seeing another Los Angeles sports team being built from the ground up.
The team has some strong backers in terms of ownership and investors. These include actress Natalie Portman, superstar soccer player and FIFA World Cup Champion Abby Wambach, actress Eva Longoria, and actress Jennifer Garner. With names such as these backing the team, how can this team possibly fail in terms of status? It won’t. They are trying to build their own fan base by already selling merchandise to help build their brand.
The Creators Share Their Thoughts On Their Involvement
They certainly have their work cut out for them as founder and president Julie Uhrman stated on their website. “For nearly a year, Kara (Nortman), Natalie Portman, and I have had hundreds of conversations with owners, players, sports and entertainment executives, activists, union leaders, and fans to ensure we did things right.” They’ve shown that they want to do this right and prove that their team belongs with the best and deserve their own spot in Los Angeles. They have also shown that they want to leave a positive impact on the community, which is something that every sports team thrives for. While they haven’t announced a venue yet, Los Angeles has plenty of places for them to set up shop and start building.
Natalie Portman announced her involvement with the team and what it means for the city in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. She seemed very excited to be bringing some of the best women’s talent in the world to a team in Los Angeles.
It will be very exciting for the people in Los Angeles to get another team to root for that also helps grow and give back to the community. The major people that are involved in creating this team and developing it all have the experience, motivation, and effort to be making this happen and allow it to thrive.
