To Make The Cut

Tiger Woods -165

No golfer is more synonymous with a course than Tiger Woods is with Augusta National. Since 1997, Tiger has won five times and placed top ten 14 times. In addition, since 2015 he’s played in the tournament five times and made the cut each time. This includes in 2022 when he finished the tournament at +13. Now Tiger hasn’t been overly active this year, but in the Genesis Invitational in February, he made the cut and finished tied for 45th at -1. That finish was ahead of solid golfers like Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Rose. Tiger is the king of Augusta and this year, he’ll be making the cut.

Top 40 Finish

Harold Varner +110

I’m like a child at a toy store when I pick golfers I like. Harold Varner is repped by Jordan and hits the absolute shit out of the ball. For me, he’s a flashy toy that I love to watch play golf. At +110, Varner feels like a solid bet because of his performance last year. In 2022, he finished tied twenty three at +3. The Masters is a tournament where making the cut for a young golfer isn’t super difficult. You get a lot of senior golfers going out and whacking the ball around for two rounds. Varner will make the cut and finish in the top forty.

Top 10 Finish

Tony Finau +180

I adore these odds. At +180, Tony Finau feels like a no brainer bet. He has the fifth highest odds to win the tournament so making the top ten, again feels like a no brainer. In three of five Finau’s Masters appearances, he has finished in the top ten and has never missed the cut. There’s also a pattern that has intrigued me in Finau’s Masters performances. In 2019, he finished tied fifth. The next year he finished tied 38th. In 2021 after not finishing in the top thirty, he finished tied tenth and in 2022 he finished tied 35th. Do you see the pattern here? This means we’re getting a Finau top ten finish in 2023.

Winner

Jordan Spieth +1800

While the obvious favorite is last years champion Scottie Scheffler, but I have a different pick in mind. I’m rocking with a golfer who has won at Augusta in the past like Scheffler. Jordan Spieth has developed a case of the yips the past few years where he hits the ball sporadically and misses the cut at tournaments, but Augusta is different. Last year, Spieth missed the cut, but in years past he has one win and five top ten finishes. Picking a winner isn’t easy. A lot of it has to do with your gut and my gut is telling me to pick Jordan Spieth.
