Sit down kids and let me tell you the story about a trendsetter in college football. This legend goes by the name of Brandon Weeden and he was a very special player over at Oklahoma State in Stillwater. He joined the Cowboys as a Freshman in 2007 and Redshirted. But he wasn’t any ordinary player, he was 24 years old as a college freshman…refer to caption

That’s right, he was as old as some of the professors on campus, and months older than his other players. How so? He was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2002 when he was a senior in High School. He jumped from Minor Teams to Farm Systems until he decided to come back to football.

So, what does this have to do with this article. Well, it is happening again, but replace the name Brandon Weeden with Cord Sandberg and swap Oklahoma State with Auburn.

Meet Cord Sandberg, the brand new 2018 QB Dual Threat for the Tigers. Cord was a Minor League player for the Phillies for 6 years, but finally decided he wanted to earn his college degree while hoping to play football. This is where the good organization of the Phillies comes into play. Cord was worried that he wasn’t going to be able to get a offer from any team, let alone a D-1 team. The Phillies then offered to pay any tuition for Cord to walk-on to a team, but Auburn offered the former 4-Star QB from 2013.

Cord didn’t choose a good time to sign with the Auburn who have a Top-10 QB and a helluva QB room, with the Number 1 2019 Dual Threat QB committed to the Tigers as well. But nonetheless, this is just a feel good story that you can’t help but wanna root for the guy, because rise or fall, he will till be playing a sport he loves and earning a college degree.
