The Little Wombats geared up for their inaugural game as a franchise and nerves were running rampant in the clubhouse. Expectations for the team are sky high. Stars Sammy Sosa and Pablo Sanchez lead what will be a hopeful championship bound team. To meet the team before Game 1, click here.

The pregame jitters were only exemplified when one of the best broadcasting duo, Sunny Day and Vinny the Gooch took the mic. (weird name in retrospect) Angela Delvecchio toed the rubber, the Wombat’s star ace. She faced off against some pitcher that was not written down, but will be named in later blogs.

The Summary

Scoring came in spurts, as four runs was scored in three different half innings. Outside of those moments the rest of the game stayed scoreless. The White Sox struck first, putting four on the Wombats ace in the bottom half of the first inning.

Thanks to a third inning screaming line drive power up, the Wombats matched that total, tying up the game.

The game remained scoreless for the entirety of regulation (or whatever you call it in baseball). The game needed one more inning to determine a winner. Sammy Sosa smacked a grand slam in the top of the seventh to give his team the lead. After a sixth straight scoreless inning for Angela, the Wombats were in the win column following the opener.

Player of the Game: Sammy Sosa

As an experienced manager, leading what will be a legendary run for the Wombats, any time you hit a grand slam, you are leading the conversation for player of the game. I loved what I saw from Angela, but Sammy came through for us at the right time, and that gives him the edge in today’s contest.
