Welcome back to college football boys and girls! For those of you who remember, this is my “Chaos Theory Rooting Guide,” detailing for you the games to take a rooting interest in each week if you enjoy complete chaos and disorder in the CFP system. Being ten years after the chaotic 2007 season, there are high expectations that this season can be more unpredictable and chaotic than ever. The week one slate is rather lame, but here are three games to watch for possible late-season implications.

#3 Florida State vs. #1 Alabama

Either of these teams obviously still will have a shot at the College Football Playoff with a loss, but it becomes a lot more difficult. I think chaos would best serve Florida State winning this game as they have a lot more losable games on their schedule down the road this season, like Clemson or Louisville. Either way, we get a playoff contender with a loss, let’s just see if it will be two.

Maryland at #23 Texas

If  this were to happen, panic ensues, Tom Hermann is on the hot seat, Texas is not back, and the entire school begins rioting and considering the disbandment of the football program. Okay, maybe not that far, but this loss would certainly throw a wrench in the plans of anyone who thinks Texas could compete for the Big 12 title. Plus, just watching ESPN overreact would be quite enjoyable.

Appalachian State at #15 Georgia

Does this game have any playoff ramifications? Not in the slightest. But would it not be fun to watch Appalachian State upset a top 15 power-five opponent ten years after they took the nation by storm against Michigan? Absolutely. With a win here, it is conceivable that App State could finish 12-0 on the season and force themselves into the New Year’s Six discussion. It’s also never not fun to see SEC fans melt down after losing to a mid-major.
