Football is back! Kansas City hosted the return to the National Football League as the Texans came to town. Unfortunately, there was no iconic Collinsworth slide, but other than that, everything felt pretty normal. The defending Super Bowl Champs rolled, in what was a pretty lopsided contest. The rematch of the AFC Divisional Round showed that the Chiefs were just as good, if not better, than the year before.

Takeaways

Chiefs’ New Weapon

Everyone knew Clyde Edwards-Helaire would be a key part of the offense, considering the Chiefs spent a first rounder on him. But after Damien Williams opted out for the season, CEH has shown he’s the workhorse on offense. Averaging 5.5 yards per carry, he was incredible efficient and showed that his rare blend of muscle and speed will translate to the NFL. This is yet another piece that makes the Chiefs even harder to stop on offense.

Watson Upset?

Although they brought it within two scores at the end, this game was never really close. Throughout the game, there seemed to be points of miscommunication and frustration from the Texans’ QB. Considering he just signed a sizeable extension, the irritation he showed is certainly something to look out for as we progress through the season. Watson was running for his life all night, but was only sacked four times.

David Johnson’s New Home

The former Cardinals’ RB caught the brunt of the hate from the Deandre Hopkins’ trade and is attempting to prove the haters wrong. In only 11 carries, Johnson rushed for 77 yards and a score from 19 yards out, his longest run since 2017. He should look to take on more carries after an efficient night.

First Quarter Over Bettors

The true first heartbreak of the season. I assumed offenses would be hot and the points would be flowing. I laid down an over bet on the first quarter total of -9.5. After an overturned Chiefs touchdown, the Texans drove down the field to score with 4:54 to go. The Chiefs were stopped on the 9 yard line at the end of the first and scored two plays later. Whoops, better luck next time.

What’s Next

The Chiefs travel to LA to take on the Chargers in a divisional battle, as the Texans head home to host Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.
