One of the college basketballs best players left in the transfer portal committed Thursday afternoon. Stretch big Quincy Guerrier announced that he will be joining the Oregon Ducks. Guerrier will join a program that is looking to get back in the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.

The Player

Simply put, Guerrier is an offensive mismatch. A 6’7 power forward with the skills to play a small ball five, he was a dynamic weapon in Jim Boeheim’s offense. On a balanced team he averaged almost 14 points a game with shooting splits of 49/31/67. Shooting 31% on 74 three’s is not a great look but the shooting stroke suggests that will get better. Look for that efficiency to rise as he becomes part of an offense that thrives on spacing the floor and has elite creators.

The most impressive facet of his game might be his ability on the boards. To rip down almost 9 rebounds a game commends his aggressiveness down low even with being undersized. Guerrier was a major factor on the offensive rebounding end bringing in almost three a game. Defensively the forward is more of a mystery as The Orange’s 2-3 Zone hid him in the middle quite often. His athletic ability when healthy suggests that he will capably be able to protect the rim and move with perimeter players.

The Fit

There could not be a better fit for a transfer like Guerrier than Dana Altman’s system. Given what Eugene Omoryui’s impact was in his one year in Eugene, it is not unthinkable for him to do the same. With N’faly Dante coming back, this will allow him to play the four and really improve his perimeter game. Combine that with the return of play making guard Will Richardson, Oregon should absolutely be in the conversation for PAC 12 favorite.
