Devon Williams has had quite the saga. When he was a four-star recruit and the number six ranked wide receiver coming out of high school, many thought Williams would commit to Oregon on signing day. However, that’s not what happened. A last-second flip occurred. This resulted in him signing with USC.

Devon Williams Transfers to Oregon

When it became known that Williams was transferring, the Oregon speculation began. However, Oregon State emerged as a threat to land the highly-talented player. His relationship with Oregon State player Jojo Forest was the main reason Oregon State was a threat.

After a while, Oregon State became viewed as the favorite. It was reported he visited Oregon State and was supposed to visit Oregon the same day. That never occurred, leaving many to speculate Oregon State would land the transfer.

On Wednesday, it was reported as such by multiple outlets. It was even announced by the official Twitter account of Oregon State Football. However, Justin Hopkins of Scoopduck posted that he was hearing things weren’t quite over.

Williams was flying back to Los Angeles and was still in contact with Oregon. It also appeared the only thing standing between Oregon and Williams was a scholarship spot.

Chris Steele announcing he would transfer to Oregon and then ending up transferring to USC cost Oregon it’s final spot in this past seasons class. The thing now became Oregon either getting that spot cleared by the NCAA and being granted another roster spot, or Williams coming as a walk-on.

While it’s unknown yet if Williams will be on scholarship for the fall, he took to Twitter today to announce he would be transferring to Oregon after all.

Impact On Oregon

This is huge for Oregon. The program already has Johnny Wilson committed in this year’s recruiting class, and now they’ll have Williams eligible starting next season.

Williams is a 6’4″ 210 LBS wide receiver with an immense amount of talent. Oregon has made huge strides at receiver this season compared to last, but adding a talent like this is always a big deal.

Devon Williams only has five catches in five seasons in his college career. Those five catches have resulted in 98 yards and one touchdown.

For whatever reason, things didn’t work out at USC. It makes sense that Williams is now heading to Oregon because that’s where he was supposed to be all along. He has now even said that much.

This is also a huge win over the in-state rival. Oregon State thought they were getting one of the highest-rated recruits that would’ve ever come to the school. They also thought they were getting him over their rival. It now appears Oregon State jumped the gun by announcing he was a part of the program, and Oregon is ending up with an immensely talented wide receiver.
