This past weekend, we were treated to the most stupidly-fearless man in college football, Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey, doing stupidly fearless things.

Hurdling defenders is the cool thing to do for all the kids these days and clearly Dungey wants a piece of that action. It’s 2nd and 10, his team his trailing late in the game, the first down and the red zone are within sight, and you think he’s going to slide? You know Syracuse’s coaches cringe every single time he takes off running because he’s not giving himself up for anybody. #22 probably just wanted to make sure he didn’t get flagged for hitting him while sliding but instead got knocked over backwards with a full flying body slam. I’m sure that one went over well in the film room this week.

And then there’s the interception, which Dungey gets back with a textbook strip out of the hands of a linebacker who probably has at least 30 pounds on him. You definitely couldn’t find more than a handful of quarterbacks who would even think of doing this and there are even fewer coaches who would condone it. The average quarterback is just a step above punters in trying to tackle ball carriers. Dungey is not your average quarterback.

He. Does. Not. Care.

This goes out to you Mr. Dungey. He’s a junior now and has been Syracuse’s guy since he was a freshman, besides missing some time due to injury last season (imagine that). Yeah he might go 13-for-42 passing with four picks against Miami one week after slicing up Clemson’s defense for three touchdowns. Throw consistency out, give me reckless irresponsibility instead. Cam Newton won’t dive for a fumble in the Super Bowl, Peyton Manning gave himself up in the pocket to get up and throw a pass, but Eric Dungey literally puts his life on the line to score a touchdown against Virginia. Who’s really the true football guy?
