Over the holiday week, Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm broke his non-throwing hand in a “freak lake accident.” The incident occurred Monday on Lake Burton in Georgia. Georgia fans can hold their breath, however, as Kirby Smart deemed the injury “insignificant,” and Fromm should miss no time during summer workouts heading into the season.

While we should never root for injuries, it would have been awesome to see Georgia’s heir to the throne get some time under center. The Dawgs grabbed ESPN’s #1 prospect Justin Fields to sit behind Fromm this upcoming season. Fields is a dual threat talent. After his spring game performance, college football fans (including myself) are eager to see him in some live action. The five star recruit may end up seeing some time this year, but Fromm is Georgia’s starter. No matter how good Fields actually is, Fromm led Georgia to 13 wins, a Rose Bowl title, and a National Championship appearance in just his sophomore year.

Fromm’s injury came on Fourth of July week, doing Fourth of July things. You can’t blame him for being on a boat on a holiday weekend, which has also been the hottest week of the year so far. He was celebrating America’s birthday the right way – on a lake. I’m sure we would all be doing the same if we could (I wasn’t which doesn’t seem fair but I also did not win the Rose Bowl last year).

Fromm’s holiday injury should also serve as a reminder to those on this beautiful holiday that is centered around explosives and alcohol to party hard, but not too hard. And, if an “insignificant” injury isn’t enough, just take Jason Pierre-Paul’s word. Folks, be careful around fireworks.

Happy Fourth.
