The New York Jets have finally granted their (former) super star safety, Jamal Adams, the wish that he asked for over a month ago. After months of contract disputes, the 1st team all pro informed the club that he wanted out on June 18.

This afternoon, the Jets struck the deal with the Seattle Seahawks, giving up Jamal Adams and their 2022 4th round draft pick in exchange for Bradley McDougald (S), a 1st round pick in 2021, a 3rd round pick in 2021, and a 1st round pick in 2022. The Jets received a haul of picks in return for the star safety and should be pleased with the deal. Adams and the Seahawks have agreed he’ll play the 2020 season under his current contract. Jamal is scheduled to make $3.6 million.

The organization is lucky they got full trade value out of Adams. Organizations acknowledged his tensions with the Jets and could’ve low-balled them for him or he could’ve eventually walked for nothing. New York played it smart by holding on to him until they got the right offer. They did not panic by entertaining the first call they got, unlike other teams, they were patient.

The trade also comes a few days after criticizing Jets Head Coach, Adam Gase. Adams told the New York Daily in an interview the following:

“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land, as a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.”

The Seattle Side of Jamal Adams trade

Adams finally got his wish not only to be traded away from New York but to also be on a contender. Despite the NFC West being the most competitive division in football, Seattle was able to manage a playoff win in Philadelphia but got eliminated by the Packers in the divisional round in 2019.

The Seahawks also win this trade, because they land one of the leagues youngest stars in Adams. Seattle’s defense in 2019 played some of its worst football since Pete Carroll arrived. The defense ranked 22nd (per PFF) in the league last year and could use any kind of secondary help in 2020.

The projected secondary starters are Shaquill Griffin (LCB), Tre Flowers (RCB), Quandre Diggs (FS), and Jamal Adams (SS). The secondary hasn’t looked this good (on paper) since the Legion of Boom era. That same secondary was the heart of their Super Bowl 48 victory against Peyton Manning’s historic offense. Seattle hopes Jamal Adams can have a similar impact on the organization like Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor did. Based on what they gave up for him, they think he has a good shot.
