October is the best sports month of the year. College football every Saturday, the NFL is in full swing, The NHL and NBA have just gotten underway, MLB playoffs are heating up, and college basketball is right around the corner. Often getting lost in the mix is college hockey.

It’s only the second weekend of the college hockey season and we’re already seeing some insane stat lines. Purdue Hockey went on the road to IU Northwest this weekend and they did not disappoint.

On Friday night the Boilers won by a score of 15-2. When do you ever hear of a hockey team scoring 15 goals in a game? They outshot the Redhawks 67-13. This is all reminiscent of Cornell Women’s Hockey Team’s ridiculous shots on goal stat line last spring. Nathan Smith had himself an eight-point game with five goals and three assists. Robert DiCiaula added four goals and one assist.

Saturday was no different. The Boilers shutout the Redhawks while piling on 21 goals. TWENTY-ONE GOALS. Yes, you read that correctly. Dominick Cappadona had an 11 point night with seven goals and four assists. Five of the seven were in the first period. Yes, he almost had a double hatty in the first 20 minutes of play.

Purdue Hockey is looking incredible early on. I don’t know what they’re feeding the boys in West Lafayette, but if their offense keeps this up the rest of the country should be on the lookout. The Boilers continue their season next weekend at Michigan State.
